New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees claims operation on his thumb injury was a victory and is expected to miss six weeks.
Since the Seahawks look to continue their very best start since their Super Bowl championship year, the Saints are beginning a stretch of matches with no quarterback Brees with the visit to Seattle on Sunday.
Teddy Bridgewater is expected to start for New Orleans in place of Brees, but Saints coach Sean Payton has yet to name a beginner.
Brees’ injury – a ligament in his casting principle, last week sustained in a reduction at the Los Angeles Rams – begs the obvious question of if the Saints are developed to resist the lack of the NFL’s all time leading passer.
«We’re getting ready to find out,» Saints boss Payton said when asked that question.
Bridgewater completed 17 of 30 passes for 165 yards after substituting Brees.
The Saints hope if he made a Pro Bowl selection in 2015 before a severe knee injury the preseason set him 32, he can recapture the form he had in Minnesota .
«We’ve got 53 people on our staff. Drew is a huge part of this,» New Orleans defensive end Cameron Jordan said.
«You can’t replace Drew, however at exactly the exact same time we do not know precisely what Teddy brings to the table. It’s been [over] two decades since he has really had a complete Pro Bowl season that he had over in Minnesota.
«At this point, I can not tell you if we could withstand without Drew.»
Payton wouldn’t confirm whether Bridgewater would begin, instead suggesting that Taysom Hill is also in the mixture.
Hill plays a variety of positions on offense and special teams and has recently replaced Brees on occasion at quarterback when Payton belongs with a choice.
Brees’ lack was not.
Their offensive line was defeated and the staff rushed for 57 yards on 20 carries. New Orleans were penalised 11 days.
The Seahawks need to cut back on their penalties. They’ve been penalised 18 occasions, such as 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers for 93 last week.
If they continue to perform matches, prevailing at Pittsburgh by 2 and having beaten the Cincinnati Bengals, the rash of penalties can prove costly.
«Our hands’ve got to get cleaner,» coach Pete Carroll said. «That’s simply being littered with their hands, and we must do better. We are not there yet, we’re not on it.
«Our conscience isn’t right about it, and I am hoping this hit hard enough this week. I am hoping that the courses are strong enough that we may create an impression.
«We’ve got to do it. We’re a team that is third-down that is fantastic.
«Everything , we stink, and that’s likely to continue to be hard and those happen due to sacks or due to penalties and we’re becoming third and fifteens and stuff. We must clean up that.»
The Seahawks don’t have some quarterback concerns as they were directed by Russell Wilson to their first 2-0 start.
Wilson used his legs and his arm at Pittsburgh to key a 28-26 victory a week after Seattle opened with a one-point win against Cincinnati.
He completed 29 of 35 passes for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. Three times scrambled to keep living a drive that conveys the final 5:34 of this game.
«It’s difficult to imagine that somebody can keep getting better when you are in year eight,» Carroll informed SeattlePI.com. «How can that happen? Nonetheless, it is. We’re seeing it»
